Del. Adrian Boafo Earns Endorsement of Maryland’s Senior Statesman Rep Steny Hoyer

Jan 23, 2026

BOWIE, MD — Today, Maryland Delegate Adrian Boafo earned the endorsement of Maryland’s senior statesman, Congressman Steny Hoyer. Congressman Hoyer released the following statement:

“With deep respect for his character, admiration for his experience, and faith in his ability as a leader, I am proud to endorse Adrian Boafo for Representative of Maryland's Fifth District.

"I have known Adrian for years. He is as warm as he is smart, as principled as he is pragmatic. He genuinely loves our community and our people.

“Public service defines Adrian. As a member of my staff, he earned Marylanders' trust. It came as no surprise when Adrian's neighbors called on him to represent their interests on the Bowie City Council. Even though he was only 25, Adrian won his race handily because voters knew from experience that he was someone they could count on to resolve their problems.

“Marylanders were so pleased with his performance as Councilman and as Bowie’s youngest Mayor Pro Tem in history that they elected him to the Maryland House of Delegates. He won that office without running on a ticket or as part of a slate of candidates. Delegates recognized his capacity for leadership and elected him to serve as Assistant Majority Leader.

“Today, there are Prince Georgians who have access to clean water, military families who are now protected from discrimination, workers who earn higher wages, and countless other Marylanders whose lives are better because of Adrian Boafo.

“Adrian delivers results. He will continue to do so as the Congressman from Maryland’s Fifth District.

“I encourage my fellow Marylanders to support Adrian Boafo for Congress.”

Del. Boafo released the following statement full of gratitude for Hoyer’s long legacy of service to Maryland and the country:

“Rep. Steny Hoyer’s legacy of service and his ability to get things done for the people is awe inspiring. His endorsement and his confidence in my ability to represent our home in Washington means the world to me. Rep. Hoyer taught me –  and so many public servants across the country 0– the importance of knowing your constituents, how to fight like hell to deliver for them, and how to work with anyone for the common good. I hope to take those lessons to Washington as we work to fortify a promising future for Maryland’s Fifth District.”

About Adrian

Adrian is a proud and lifelong Marylander. A son of immigrant parents from Ghana, he attended DeMatha Catholic High School and went on to the University of Baltimore, where he served as the first Black President of the Student Government Association. It was during a student advocacy trip to Annapolis to demand better mental health services and reforms around issues like the cost of education and criminal justice reform that Adrian saw how few voices looked or sounded like his at the decision-making table. He decided to pursue a career in the service of better policy to actually address the challenges his community faced.

Adrian was fortunate to serve the communities of Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District working for Congressman Steny Hoyer. At the age of 25, he won a seat on the Bowie City Council and later served as Vice Mayor of the City of Bowie. In 2022, voters again put their faith and trust in Adrian and elected him to the Maryland House of Delegates. Adrian has championed the Maryland Phone Free School Act to keep our students safe and focused in school and the ICE Breaker Act which would ban officers who joined ICE during Trump’s attack on immigrant communities from ever serving in the state police force.
